GIN LOSSIE BAG

Grey felt bag for Gin Lossie with embroidery and a carry handle shaped like the Sparrenburg silhouette.

Felt bags for gin bottles

You could call it a schnapps idea - albeit one of the successful and noble kind. After all, it's about developing customised gift packaging for a high-quality regional product: Gin Lossie from Bielefeld. Together with HALFAR®, a felt packaging was created that authentically showcases the product and offers exciting options for individualisation. Marcel Lossie, creator of the Gin Lossie line, tells us more about this creative customised bag in an interview.

More about customised bags

Mr Lossie, you produce high-quality gin in Bielefeld. Lossie gin already has very special packaging - the clay bottle. Why did you want to continue packaging the bottles?

It is precisely because our product is so valuable that it is often given as a gift. That's why we received many requests for gift packaging.

What were your requirements for this packaging?

It had to be an unusual idea, of high quality and with a regional reference. That's how we came up with Sparrenburg Castle, which is the symbol of Bielefeld, the beautiful city in the Teutoburg Forest.

What was the challenge?

We had initially thought of cardboard. But it was simply too unstable and impractical in the shape of the Sparrenburg.

How did you come up with the idea of having your gin packaged in felt?

I visited HALFAR® with the cardboard packaging. I got to know the bag makers through their social commitment and support for the Fruchtalarm project, in which I am involved on a voluntary basis. It's a great company with lots of exciting products. I saw felt bags in the showroom and immediately thought: that's it!

What makes the felt packaging so special?

The felt matches the colour of the Sparrenburg quite well and can be processed into various shapes. As a soft material, it adapts perfectly to the shape of the bottle. The carrying handle does not stand out as such, but serves as a flagpole for the Bielefeld Sparren flag.

Speaking of flags: there are also special editions of the Sparrenburg packaging?

Exactly, the flag and embroidery can be changed and customised. For example, the special edition "Arminia Dry Gin" has the flag of the Bundesliga football club flying over the Filzburg. On request, we can of course also realise company logos on the flag or embroidery together with HALFAR®.

How did the process go from the idea to realisation?

The idea came as spontaneously as the first sample - it took less than 48 hours. Ulf Schrader and Malte Trispel from HALFAR® were on hand as expert contacts and provided perfect support throughout the entire process.

How has the creative packaging been received by customers?

The customers and business partners are delighted - just like me!

Are there perhaps already new ideas or continuations of the packaging project?

In addition to the Sparrenburg for our 700 ml bottle, we have developed a "six-pack handbag" with HALFAR® for the new 200 ml bottles. This means that all six flavours can also be given away in tasting size "in felt".

As you can see, bags are not only suitable for transporting everyday and everyday objects, but also make wonderful original gift packaging. So stay creative, just like Marcel Lossie!
